A person without a valid registration of aliens from the federal government or other proof of legal presence in America, just to be in Alabama, is guilty of a crime punishable by a $ 100 fine and 30 days prison under a bill passed Thursday by the State Senate.
The crime was "deliberate failure to complete or produce a document of registration of aliens." The Senate voted 23-11 for the proposal.
The bill seeks to discourage illegal immigrants from entering Alabama or stay here, is almost completely rewritten version of House Bill 56, which in its original form was adopted a month ago to House of Representatives.
Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, said Senate approval of the bill would put the House and Senate in a position to appoint three members of the House and three Senators to a conference committee that would try to write a compromise version of the two sides could support.
The House and Senate will meet again on May 24, after a few weeks off for statewide hearings on the readjustment of districts in Alabama to the Congress and the State Board of Education.
The bill passed the Senate and it would be a crime for a person who is an alien not authorized to "knowingly labor demand, solicit work in public or private or perform work as an employee or contractor Independent, Alabama. This crime is punishable by a fine of $ 500.(Huntsville Times)
The Alabama Legislature gave final approval to a bill that would prevent students in areas damaged by the storm have to go to school in June.
The Senate voted 29-0 Thursday to approve amendments to the House a bill giving school systems more flexibility in making up days lost due to storms.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, and Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, allows school systems that had to cancel classes because of the storms last week to catch up these days adding hours to several days of school. The measure was amended in the House to give the state superintendent of the school administration to allow some school systems do not make up all days lost.
The Senate approved the change Thursday, and Governor Robert Bentley immediately enacted.
he State Senate Thursday night voted 18-16 for an amendment of the Land Act of State, which provides job protection to teachers in public schools.
The plan, a revised version of Bill 310, sponsored by Senate Senator Trip Pittman, R-Montrose, now goes to state officials for consideration of the House.
