What to serve at a work related dinner party while being mindful ...

My husband wants to throw a party for some colleagues and employees. He said that some guests are Hindus and Muslims, and we (meaning I) must be aware of their dietary restrictions. Knowing little of these restrictions posed a dilemma about what to serve. I love to cook and I would serve a buffet style meal that everyone will enjoy.

Answer:

Well, some Hindus are vegetarian, so that could have an impact. From what I know, I think that Hindus believe the cow is sacred, thus avoiding cow or, possibly, meat dishes might be a wise decision. Muslims can eat pork less. And the meat they eat is to cut with the blessing of God (halal meat). Not all Muslims to adhere strictly to halal, if it is not just pork, but you never know. I went with a vegetarian buffet style dinner just to be sure that if you want to go to the trouble of finding halal meat, and others.I do not think Hindus or Muslims would find to be offensive, if you had food there that they could not eat, but I want to put a label just for them to know. And as the buffet is not all focused on the food they are limited by, this should go. Oh, and also to ensure that no liquor to Muslims. Again, I do not have it, there will be a problem, but point out to them just to be on the safe side!
