Thousands 'Race for the Cure' in Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY - Thousands of friends and families - mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, best friends - all gathered near the front door Saturday morning for one reason only: Race for the Cure.
Although the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is a long effort to raise money for cancer research, more than anything is an opportunity for cancer survivors and those recently diagnosed to support each other.
"Whether you yourself, someone in your family, someone you know - it's everywhere," said Laura Gliedman survivor.
Many of those who ran in Saturday's race did not have cancer, but I wanted to show support for those who do.
"It's awesome," said Jae Cramer. "There are a lot of energy here and everyone here working together to help find a cure."
And while cancer is common, so is determination. This determination has been present on the faces of all cancer survivors and patients, hoping, praying and working for a better future.
"I want to help find a cure for my daughter and my grandchildren do not have to go through it," said Debbie Neff survivor.
Gliedman said: "It's just critical that we find a cure for this.Too many people are affected by it. "
Thousands of people attended this year, uniting against a disease that affects the lives of millions of people, including friends, family and loved ones of those struggling with breast cancer.
"It will be incredible," said Neff. "It will be, I believe, the best year we've ever had."
The goal this year was to have more than 17,000 runners raised over $ 550,000. Just a giant step towards the ultimate goal: a cure against cancer.
"I think it brings more awareness to the community," Laurie McIntosh. "It brings everybody together. It's a great cause."
Even those who do not want to get up and fight against trafficking to hit the floor had the chance to get involved.
"Sleep for Life" also took place on Saturday - which means you make your donation, get a T-shirt and snooze the morning away.
