InsiderTrips offers deals for hip vacation spots
T’s like Groupon for vacations.The goal of Hub start-up InsiderTrips.com is to find quality properties that are a bit different and unique, according to co-founder Christopher Stuart.
“It’s similar to a Groupon-style model, where the deals are posted for about 14 to 15 days, and the traveler has the opportunity to buy at a good price,” Stuart said.
The company’s first deal is a three-night stay in a one-bedroom cottage with full kitchen at Pender Harbour Resort & Marina in British Columbia, Canada, for $320, including taxes and fees — a 33 percent savings, according to the site.
Stuart and his partner, who’ll earn a commission on deals sold, are self-financing the company.
They decided not to offer entire trip packages with flights because they believe the younger travelers that they’re targeting — 30- and 40-year-olds — have personal preferences when it comes to flying and are savvy enough to find flight deals by themselves.
“Even though Priceline and others have packages, nowadays consumers are so educated about travel online that, while packages might be attractive, if they do the legwork, they’re able to find prices that are better if you separate the two,” Stuart said.
InsiderTrips, which offers free memberships, plans to initially post new deals every couple of days before ramping up to daily ones.
The deals will range from one-night getaways to a five-night stay in a yoga and healing retreat in Jamaica.
The flurry of other new daily deal sites doesn’t dissuade Stuart from believing in his business.
“We’re specifically focused on travel,” he said. “There are competitors, but I think by what we’re doing — creating a very loyal community of users — we’re getting a head start on what I believe will be a transformation of the travel industry.
