"You charge me for boxes and Telus doesn't, why would I go to you?" asked Dvai Ghose, a Canaccord Genuity analyst quoted in the Herald story.

Jay Mehr, Shaw's senior vice president of operations said that the box isn't for every customer. "It's a high end solution; it makes an awful lot of things possible," he said.

Shaw will implement the box's features in stages to "make sure we get it right and pace our way through it," Mehr said. Subscribers will similarly pay it off in steps of $17 a month over 36 months.

Remember when Shaw came out with HD PVR's and they were up to $600? They milked that price for years and now they are offering to replace it for the SAME PRICE again, just to have a newer box (gateway) and a single portal. Marginally more tech for another significant outlay of cash...and no real deals existing customers. You can get a BETTER deal from Telus even if you were never their customer before.

...did I forget the mentionthe HORRIBLE Shaw service that comes with this? 30-60min wait times and staff that hang up on you. Shaw needs to do a LOT BETTER than this to win customers back...especially the long term ones.

Idiot... yeah, cause when the PVR's came out 10 years ago they were worth $600, and a newer generation 6 tuner PVR is worth more then that to the right people. Would you rather have a free 3 tuner, or pay for a 6 tuner? Plus you said it your self... more tech for another significant outlay of cash... You would pay more then that for a new computer when it comes out, but the TV industry has taught people like you to expect something for free and scream when you dont get what you want. If your post here is anything even close to what you would say on the phone, I'd hang up on you too, which is a crock anyway. As for 30-60 min, I've NEVER been on hold that long. Maybe if you didn't call at 2 in the afternoon with everyone else and their dog, which again is a crock. I'd rather deal with a local person and wait a bit longer on hold then talk to someone with a accent who doesn't even know where vancouver is on a map. And what better deal can you get from TELUS eh? A free rental PVR for a 2-3 year contract? If you take a straigt month to month plan with telus, you pay for your equipment. You only get it for free when you sign up for a contracted service. Horrible service? You think telus is better? Where do you return equipment? nowhere... you mail it in and wait for it to be mailed back with no replacement. You think you can call telus and complain and get a customers and always makes a attempt to be a leader, over TELUS who would rather outsource their employee's and do anything to get you in a contract that you cant get out of.
